Shackelford Family Album Collection
Scope and Contents
The Shackelford Family Album Collection contains three postcards, photographs and one photo album of the Shackelford family, friend Katherine Rawls, and the Rawls family. Photographs date from the 1930s to 1940s. Genealogical materials such as family trees, a photocopy of Alexander W. "Henry" and Willie Shackelford’s marriage certificate, and notes on family members are also included.

Biographical / Historical
Willie and Alexander W. "Henry" Shackelford married in July 1911 and settled in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. They had two daughters, Dorothy Shackelford Straker and Julia Shackelford Orr. Dorothy’s friend, Katherine Rawls (1917-1982) was a swimmer and diver. She competed in the 1932 Olympics and several U.S. National Championships. Rawls taught swimming at the Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulpher Springs, West Virginia.
